Robert James “Bob” Ritchie, most commonly known by his stage name, Kid Rock, recently released his ninth studio album, “Born Free” which features musical guests such as Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Bob Seger, and T.I. This new album and the album previously released, “Rock N Roll Jesus” find the artist returning to his southern rock roots with hits like, “All Summer Long” which is a mash up of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” and Warren Zevon’s, “Werewolves in London.” Kid Rock’s most recent album debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard Rock Albums Chart and the single, “Born Free” has had a huge success not only on charts but the radio as well with lyrics such as,” Free, like a river raging. Strong, if the wind I'm facing. Chasing dreams and racing fathered time. Deep, like the grandest canyon, wild, like an untamed stallion, if you can't see my heart you must be blind.” The song has a wide range of musical variety such as a slow beat that features a grand piano instead of a guitar which transitions into drums with an incredibly powerful final chorus. The album also features “Times Like These,” a touching, personal song for Rock, “I heard them say they're shutting Detroit down but I won't leave cause this is my hometown and it's times like these we can't replace it's times like these we must embrace.” Having grown up in Detroit, Michigan, Kid Rock always manages to voice his love for the city on all of his records. As billboard.com states, “’Born Free’ lets Kid Rock get back to what he does best: making classic music with a modern twist,” and with that ability to make modern rock, I am sure that Kid Rock will continue to make great music in the future.
