Deadmau5 is one of those artists that you would never forget if you saw him. Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, wears a gigantic mouse head with huge ears at every concert he is hosting. His music could be described as anywhere from house, which is a type of electro music, to progressive, which is electro as well but the beat progresses as it continues. It is, however, not what you would expect if you thought of your typical rave scene with just continuous kicks and snares with no emotion. Joel’s songs might be made by a computer program or a drum machine, but they are not lacking in feeling. His songs can range from sad, to feel good, or even just pure make you want to dance energetic songs. Also, some of his songs tend to have a dreamy feel to them. For instance, like a slow fading beat while a single chord is continuously playing, then the beat fades back in to give a sort of trance feeling to it. If I were to compare Deadmau5’s music to the music of a well known trance DJ named Tiesto, I would be hard pressed to find similarities. The only problem is that I can honestly not think of any other artist that comes closer to being like deadmau5 than Tiesto. I guess you could say that both make music with beat making hardware devices and computers, and both are very famous in the world of techno. Besides that, Deadmau5 stands alone in his own category of music, and that’s why I love his music so much, no one can recreate it. As far as lyrics go, that can be tricky, only because the vast majority of his songs don’t have words in them. And the few that do, the only lyrics are just samples of someone saying or singing something for maybe a few seconds and are usually used in the chorus of the song. I would fully agree with the critics opinions on Deadmau5, because from the reviews I’ve read, they all love his style of music and his originality. In my opinion, he is one of the best House DJ’s in the entire world and I would recommend him to anyone who likes that type of music.
