Linkin Park has always been one of my favorite bands. Ever since the band formed in 1996, they’ve been creating amazing albums. From the hard rock tracks of their first album, Hybrid Theory, to their more solemn tracks of their newest album, A Thousand Suns, Linkin Park has created a music type all their own. Linkin Park is classified as rock but their music has evolved so it now contains rap and techno elements. Linkin Park’s first albums gave a feeling of rebellion while their new album, A Thousand Suns, has a much more solemn, sobering feel to it. Linkin Park is said to be similar to the band Limp Bizkit as well as rock groups like Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace. Linkin Park’s lyrics however, are more similar to the band U2 because they talk about a lot of political things. A Thousand Suns is said to be similar to Pink Floyd's landmark album The Dark Side of the Moon in the sense that the band has created a whole new sound on these albums. One song I think is really memorable on A Thousand Suns is “Iridescent”. In the song, it says, “Remember all the sadness and frustration and let it go, let it go”. I think this song is about forgetting all the pain that you've been through and live life without having those experiences hold you back. A Thousand Suns was a really controversial album. In the articles I read, the critics liked how Linkin Park was taking a risk and reinventing themselves in this album. However, I read some of the reviews written by fans and they aren’t so crazy about the change. I agree with the critics that liked how Linkin Park reinvented themselves because I think that was really brave of Linkin Park. Plus, I do like the music on the new album even though it’s more electronic and rap instead of rock. Overall, I defiantly think Linkin Park is worth the time and money. One major reason I think this is because I had the opportunity to go to one of their concerts and it was amazing. In fact, they were awarded the MTV EMA (European Music Awards) award for "Best Live Act." Linkin Park will always be one of my very favorite bands.
