Mike Posner would have to be one of my favorite male artists. Mike is one of today’s minor r&b/pop stars today. He only has a few mix-tapes out as of now but is most likely going to prosper in the years to come. In my opinion this man has great potential. This potential was brought out with one of his hit singles “Cooler Than Me.” In which that song had given him is big break into the 15 minutes of fame. Mike is still in the making of his first album titled 31 Minutes to Takeoff. At the age of 22 Mike was attending Duke University just ending his junior year. During this time Mike was finally discovered and taken from mix-tape junkie to major-label star. Even with being discovered he still had the ambition to finish out his schooling, graduating with a degree in sociology and in business. Even with such education Posner still tends to bring out his immaturity in his music. Many of his songs are based around sex and drugs. On the other hand he does still write songs about love lost and also gained so he tends to even out the different levels of songs that he produces. The album 31 Minutes to Takeoff shows Mike Posner to almost have the same type of voice as well known Justin Timberlake, but in my opinion I feel as if this man will go a lot further than Justin ever has. Despite the fact that Justin had started out much younger than Mike has that has little advantage only because Mike has had the chance to sit back and watch other stars make the mistakes that young stars tend to make and he has learned to avoid many of them in hopes of bettering his career. Many critics have made the decision to label Mike Posner as just another frat boy that no one would ever want to hang out with. I on the other hand highly disagree with this statement only because yes mike may be young and in a frat that does not always have to put a bad name upon him. To many the whole “frat life” is just a phase that passes within time and as I see it that phase for Mike is now over and I am excited to see what he has next to bring to the table.
