Chevelle is a well known band, which focuses on hard rock music. With only three members to this band they have a lot of power. The songs that Chevelle plays are very dynamic; ranging from low and heavy notes, to a more soft and airy parts. Chevelle’s drummer, Sam Loeffler, brings out the heavy sound and creative beat to Chevelle’s new sound. The band strikes many emotions throughout this album. In Well Enough Alone, we get a sense of anger in the intro of the song. However, as the song moves on the listeners hears a more lonesome tone. Emotions switch to bitterness and unhappiness in the song Brainiac. The emotions switch so often between songs that it makes the album a little confusing. But that doesn’t take away from the great album Vena Sera became. Chevelle has a similar sound to the bands Trapt and Cold. However, Chevelle has a heavier sound to their music, even with less people. Trapt and Cold rarely switch between soft and hard core music like Chevelle does. The singers of the bands have a similar tone as well. The lyrics to the songs on the Vena Sera album all have a specific meaning. The most memorable lyric is from Well Enough Alone; “ And like before, makes no sense Never coming, always leaving Right before hooked on substance Dig in deeper, can't reveal” This is the most memorable for me because it has so many meanings. It could be talking about someone that is closed off in a relationship, a person hiding from the truth, or even someone with an addiction. Many critics are very tough on this band. For example, ew.com says that Chevelle is boring because it has “chugging intros, choppy verses, clouds-parting choruses.” I disagree with this statement. The changes in intros make the songs more diverse. As for the choppy verses, I believe that the verses are more like poetry, with multiple meanings. I believe it is worth the time and money to see and hear Chevelle play. Chevelle is a band that will not disappoint. They have heavy chords, ranging lyrics, and many emotions to play with. Chevelle is a great band with a lot of potential.
