Precious was a 2009 drama film. It was directed by Lee Daniels and was based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. Mainly this movie is about an overweight, illiterate teen that is pregnant with her second child. After being raped by her own father, Precious has a constant struggle throughout her life. She walks around with her head down and rarely speaks to anyone. She feels as if she has no one to count on, not even her own mother. Mo’Nique who plays her mother, abuses her because she feels jealous of Precious. She believes Precious was trying to steal him from her. Precious than decides to attend an alternative school hoping her life will change for the better. This film stars, Gaborey Sidbe who plays as the main character. Paula Patton plays as Precious’s teacher. Mariah Carey also stars in this movie as a social worker. This movie was Gaborey Sidbe’s first acting debut. Critics say that she did an outstanding job with playing this role. She had such a good performance that critics said they almost believed that Gaborey was Precious and it was as if it was her that actually had gone through the struggles of Precious. Mo’Nique also did a remarkable performance playing her role. She even won the Special Jury Prize for best supporting actress. Precious was inspirational to many people. Opray Winfery and Tyler Perry even offered to provide promotional assistance to this film. I agree with the critics for the most part. They supported the film with good indictment. I enjoyed watching this movie and would recommend young adults to also view this film. This movie made me feel empathy for the people who actually go through it in real life. It made me think about how good I have it in my life. I believe this film was phenomenal and it is worth our time and money.
