The movie Simon Birch is a very character driven movie. The movie is based on a handicapped child living to serve his purpose. Simon grew up in a house where his family didn’t care for him because they felt he wasn’t very important or special. But Simons best friend Joe took care of him and protected him like an older brother. They enjoyed life together but Simon felt he had something more special. After Simon mistakenly killed Joe’s mom at a baseball game, he had the spirit that told him god gave him a purpose to serve before he dies. Simon was very faith driven throughout the film which he used to help others gain faith. Towards the end of the movie Simon passed away by saving the church camp children out of the lake. But ironically Simon ended up drowning due to his heroic purpose. He believed by saving those children from the drowning bus that he served his purpose on earth, which was to be a hero. He also believed he was created as gods given instrument. Joe had lost 2 loved ones to death but gained 2 extra people in his life. Joe didn’t have a father but Simon helped Joe find his dad before he died making him Joe’s hero as well. The actors in this film played their roles greatly making the story seem more realistic to its audience. The theme the audience is supposed to gain from this film mainly revolves around always having faith in any situation and everything will go fine. Also to not judge others by their appearance, but search deeper within them shows a unique character. Simon had goals and ambitions to achieve which made him a hero after he accomplished them all. I reviewed the overviews of this movie had made a box office budget at 30 million in 1998. Also reviewing how the critics feel about this movie compares to my beliefs. It’s all in the faith a person has, to believe they can do something and they will. Overall my opinion on this movie is very inspiring to the world on how we judge others on what they can accomplish. But in the end everyone has their own purpose living so we all are believers and heroes to others. I really recommend people to watch this film I feel the movie is worth every penny.
