Rango is a great animation which teaches viewers the importance of knowing who you are as a person. Rango, who actually names himself, doesn’t have an identity of his own. Originally, he’s a plain lizard who’s been living alone in a glass box. When he enters a small town, he creates this heroic image of himself, someone who he’s always imagined himself to be. Out of sheer luck, he’s able to convince the townsfolk that he’s done all these amazing things and becomes the town’s new sheriff. As head honcho, it’s up to him to solve the water issue. The water supply is running out, but something seems suspicious. Rango’s ready to solve the problem; however, his courage and bravery is based off his imagination and not real events, so can he handle the challenge without being caught as a fraud? Johnny Depp plays the voice of Rango, and does a great job when it comes to altering his voice. He speaks with confidence and gallantry when Rango’s ready to take on an adventure. Yet when Rango doubts himself, you can clearly identify the voice shift of uncertainty and confusion. Despite his insecurity, in the end he teaches us a lesson, that we can be anyone we wish to be. We have full control of our lives, and if we take a charge, we can make it happen. The critic, Roger Ebert, said Rango was a, “great-looking entertainment with a strong story, limitless energy…” I strongly agree with Ebert. Although it’s an animation, you still can capture the energetic aura of the characters which keeps you watching the movie. It’s humorous, sarcastic, and full of unexpected twists. As an overall opinion, Rango is movie worth the time and money. It’s a family movie that amuses both adults as well as children.
