Sweet Home Alabama is a light hearted movie about a small town southern girl. The movie starts out where Melanie is a high-class fashion designer in New York who gets engaged to the major’s son, Andrew. Melanie goes back home to Alabama to tell her parents she’s getting married when she runs into her ex husband, Jake. As the movie continues she sees more and more of Jake who was also her best friend growing up, and she recalls the memories they had together. Melanie is stuck in the middle of her now fiancé, Andrew and her ex husband, Jake. When the wedding day arrives, Melanie must choose whether she wishes to proceed with her newest love and live in New York, or go back to her old best friend and husband, Jake and live in her home town in Alabama. Reese Witherspoon is a fabulous actress in this well-known movie. She is perfect for the role of a southern girl who is trying to decide between her two lives. Josh Lucas, the former husband is the perfect fit for his role. His good looks and charm makes it hard for Reese to resist him. Melanie is a small town girl who is spontaneous and just wants to have fun. She definitely has the small town character. Her stubbornness is what gets her into trouble. Her only motivation is that she wants to settle down and get married and live a comfortable life. The theme in the movie is to fight for what you want. In many scenes you see Melanie fighting for the man she finally knows who she wants to spend her life with. One critic said “The romantic-comedy smash returned the Nashville-raised Witherspoon to her Southern roots.” I definitely agree with this because she is the perfect actress to play a southern girl. I would recommend Sweet Home Alabama to anyone who enjoys a good love story with some humor and drama. It will be worth all of your time and money and you won’t regret it!
