Hop has been so far the funniest movie about Easter that I’ve ever seen. Granted, I haven’t seen many, but this one certainly makes the top of the list. With very simple, easy-to-follow plot, it is a very good kid’s movie. Its premise is that the main human character, Fred (James Marsden), is a lazy out of college man looking for a job. He hasn’t been working for almost one year, so his father (Gary Cole) decided to kick him out. Ultimately, the fact that he’s this lazy lands him his dream job. Next in line to be the Easter bunny is E.B., (voiced by Russel Brand), however in his mind he is not worthy to be the THE bunny. He has other things on his mind. He is a rebellious little bunny whose only dream is to play the drums in a famous rock band. Along their journeys, Fred and E.B. meet up and become help to each other. Every job that Fred has had has either been too much work or “not what he has been looking for”. Fred and E.B. support each others’ roles in the sense that they are both dreaming for some amazing job to just come waltzing through the door. Most of the plot starts to come out after more than half of the film and the middle only consists of Fred trying to get rid of E.B. Many themes arise from this film, but the one that sticks out would have to be “never give up on your dreams, because you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it.” IGN’s review states that “Hop could’ve been 90 minutes of the bunny, E.B., crapping jellybeans following the shot of Kaley Cuoco eating, unknowingly, one of his candied droppings.” I completely agree. Overall, this movie was very entertaining to see the day before Easter, and worth the $4 matinee fee. However, I would not necessarily recommend this film in any way to a friend to watch if he asked what a good movie out there is.
