Mac Miller is one of the faces of new aged hip-hop. He created his own name by self-promoting and releasing mix tapes. Recently on November 8th Mac Miller released an independent album called Blue Slide Park. Blue Slide Park was taken from a park where Mac used to play when he was a little kid back in Pittsburgh. Mac Miller wanted to make the album reflect him and where he is from. He did this with songs like “Frick Park Market”, which is a deli in Pittsburgh, and with “Party On 5th Ave”. Mac Miller raps about having a good time and being what you want to be, when Mac was first coming up his lyrics almost only talked about smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol. Mac Miller likes to compare himself to John Lennon and to the Beatles not because he sounds like them but because he is an innovator. In the self-titled song “Blue Slide Park” Mac says “I got these ray band shades kinda look like something Lennon would rock” comparing himself to John Lennon. In Mac’s song “Under The Weather” he says “everything could be fairy tales dreams come true” in this line he is talking about himself, he is saying that his life is like a fairy tale and all of his dreams have come true. Other Critics have been hard on Mac Miller saying that he is not lyrically talented, when in reality he is, he uses his lyrics to appeal to people that are like him. A lot of teenagers can relate to his songs because he himself is a teenager, only 19 at the time his album was released. My overall opinion of Mac Millers album Blue Slide Park is that it is a good album. I would recommend that people buy the album and take the time to listen to it all.
