Carrie Underwood is American country singer and songwriter who became famous due to her winning the fourth season of American Idol. She has become a multi-platinum selling recording artist. She has also won many awards, such as, Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. Other accomplishments in her music career have been a nominee of Golden Globe Award, three-time Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association Female Vocalist winner, and two-time ACM Entertainer of the year back to back. Carrie Underwood sings mainly country music. Her debut album, Some Hearts, was just as fans expected, a country feel with a little pop added in. This set a very high standard for herself. Her second album, Carnival Ride, had a little more country feel, with songs she helped co-write so the personal connections and emotions were there. Her third album, Play On, was a contemporary country-pop record with more of a pop focus, yet again it is still continues to be an incredible album even after the last two. Now her upcoming album, to be released in May, Blown Away, is taking a whole new direction. This album is to be darker with a lot of drama. Each song has a different feel. Some songs are slower and more serious with a deep meaning and emotion. But other songs are more edgy and wild and the kind you can jam out to in the car. A couple artists that would be similar to Carrie Underwood would be Kellie Pickler and Miranda Lambert. They both are very famous country singers as well. Kellie Pickler, singer, was also on American Idol. She finished sixth place on the fifth season. Miranda Lambert, singer and songwriter, is a huge name in the country music world as well as winning many Grammy, ACM, and CMA awards. Carrie Underwood’s lyrics are so touching and relatable. From the song, “So Small” she says, “While you’re sitting around thinking ‘bout what you can’t change/And worrying about all the wrong things/ Time’s flying by, moving so fast/ You better make it count ‘cause you can’t get it back.” These lyrics are from one of Carrie Underwood softer, more sensitive sides, talking about how life is too short, and we can’t take advantage of the small things. This is a very meaningful message. Another lyric is from, “Before He Cheats” she says, “I might’ve saved a little trouble for the next girl, ‘cause the next time that he cheats… Oh you know it won’t be on me!” These lyrics are from one of Carrie Underwood’s more fun and crazy songs. She is talking about how she is standing up for herself and others when a guy is playing them all; very relatable to teenagers who are listening. Everyone loves Carrie Underwood. She has the whole package and all anyone can say are good things. Jack Leaver said in The Grand Rapids Press, “Plain and simple, Carrie Underwood is one of the finest singers in any genre.” I completely agree. Carrie Underwood can completely rock your world in any type of music she sings. She is an amazing singer all the way around. In a New York Times article, Jon Caramanica said, “It’s only Ms. Underwood’s impeccable, frosted vocals that bring firm resolution. Every few minutes during this show she delivered a knockout blow.” I also agree with this too because her voice is unstoppable. She will blow you away with her performances. Overall, “Underwood has been a country diva with a huge voice, a megawatt smile and a heart of gold,” Rolling Stones says. She is well worth all your time and money. I have been in love with her since the first day she auditioned for American Idol and still to this day. Carrie Underwood is a beautiful, talented, inspiring young artist that continues to grow. I guarantee you will not be disappointed!
