One specific artist in the music genre of rap and hip-hop that I particularly like is 50 cent, or Curtis Jackson. One of his most chart-topping albums was Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which primarily of course focused on getting rich or die trying, but also focused on how 50 cent kicked off his career and that he would stop at nothing to get to the top. This album is also significant because it talks about his life previous to becoming famous along with the struggles and obstacles he was faced with everyday growing up in a struggling neighborhood where drugs were distributed throughout the day and were shootings were common. The feeling that the album evokes makes you wonder what it would be like to live in a neighborhood like that and wake up to constant struggles every day, yet still trying to make it big. 50 cents music also can relate to other artists music such as Eminem, who grew up in a rough situation and still never stopped to reach their goal and did whatever it took to better themselves and their family. One particular song that stood out to me from 50 cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ album would be “Heat”, which talks about the constant obstacles and competition he is dealt with out in the competitive music business and that no one can stand in his way. This song is particularly memorable to me because sometimes I will stop at nothing to accomplish my goals and that also along the way I could experience “heat” from others, but will still continue to stop at nothing. Critics argue with this album and say that the album lacks “soul”, which I strongly disagree with because the whole point of 50 cent coming out with this album was to express himself and his life story including his struggles along the way. Overall 50 cents music is worth your time and money, his music is very up-beat, and also can relate to others out there in the world who go through constant struggles everyday, but always strive to the top, no matter what.
