Many people believe that Hanson was a one-hit wonder because their song “MMMBop,” but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Hanson is a soft rock band that has been around since the mid-1990s. Because they have been around so long, they have almost 10 albums that have been released. Their latest album, Shout it Out, which was released in 2010, had a somewhat upbeat tone with lyrics that talk about moving on and starting on a new path. One song on the album Shout it Out that has memorable lyrics is called “Me, Myself and I.” In the song the sing the words: “‘Me, Myself and I will never be alone/ We’ll find a way to get alone/ And we’ll be fine.’” This song is about moving forward and being strong enough to do so on your own. This song itself in some way is s conclusion to the album as a whole because most of the songs on the album are about being hurt, used, and trying to get over things that have happened in the past. Hanson is a somewhat unique band that is hard to compare to other musicians because there sound has changed slightly over the many years they have been a band. One band that people believe have a somewhat similar sound to is Maroon 5. Also, they are occasionally compared to other boy bands because of their ages when they first became popular. In his article, Gregory Robson says: “Anchored by Taylor’s full-lunged vocals, this is an album of soulful, viciously catchy rock n’ roll,” which is something I would mostly agree with. The album is most definitely catchy and worth the good reviews it received when it was released. Overall, I would recommend this album and band because they have been around a long while and know how to create a successful album. Also, they have enough talent to continue making popular music.
