Slipknot was a new kind of heavy metal. They wear masks and not just have the 4 needed musical instruments but instead have 9 people to add to the instrumental effects. They have been making music that makes you just want to get up and take a swing at someone or rebel against everything that’s thought to be acceptable for years. Many people say they sound like other bands such as Mushroom Head and Murderdolls , but when it comes down to it, their sound is simply unique. Their lyrics are rebellious and speak out to hit home to their fans or “maggots” as they refer to them. In the song “Left Behind” is from Iowa and the lyrics tell about how they feel about escaping from the pain and suffering of the harsh looks they have received throughout their life, ‘I ignore you, as I close my eyes I feel it all slipping away. We all got left behind; we let it all slip away.’ The point behind the music is to please no one. Its, for the most part, simply things they all have thoughts about and have experienced throughout the years. A song called “Dead Memories” off of their album All Hope Is Gone bases its lyrics off of failed hope of past relationships between not only themselves and others but also of their own reflections. ‘Dead visions in your name, dead fingers in my veins, dead memories in my heart,’ they speak of the memories they have that are worth nothing to them anymore. Many people believe their music is satanic and unholy but it’s just the same as any other musician trying to tell their story just in their own words. It’s a different style then most could listen to but is a very good band to work out to or any time when you need to get your blood flowing a little bit. I agree with the critics about how the sound is best because of its raw, heavy, unedited music and vocals. It’s simply musical talent at its best.
