"Life of Pi" The movie "Life of Pi" is an astounding achievement of storytelling. The movie is based on a worldwide best-seller that many readers thought could not be captured as a film. It is a touching movie to all who have read the book and have witnessed the film. The plot of "Life of Pi” was based on a teenage hero who traveled across the Pacific Ocean in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger for 227 days. They find themselves in the lifeboat together trying to seek survival, acceptance and adaptation. The story started off in a small family zoo in Pondichery, India. A young boy by the name of Piscine was being raised there. As his life expanded they nick named him "pee." He was not thrilled with the name so he decided to adopt the nick name "Pi," inspiring a strange ability to write down that exact numbers after 3.14. Pi would never ends it was a limitless number, which related perfectly for this young boy. As the film goes on the audience will see his strength and courage throughout his journey with the Bengal tiger. The actors who play the character of Pi vary there is more than one due to the age as he grows older. One of the strongest actors who played the role of Pi was Suraj Sharma in the beginning of the film. He had lived all his life in the middle-class suburbs of South Delhi with his parents. He had no previous acting experience, Ang Lee the director of this magnificent film casted Suraj for the role of Pi. As a young boy, Suraj displayed a strong ability in music. Suraj Sharma performance in the film was touching to all emotion in the human body. Pi the main charter has a variety of traits and motivations for instance one trait that he has that stands out from all the others is his faith to his religion. That is a strong point in the film due to his journey that he faced. One main motivation throughout the film was survival for Pi. “Life of Pi” is based on survival, acceptance and adaptation. Living creatures will often do extraordinary, unexpected, and sometimes heroic things to survive. However, they will also do shameful things if pushed to their limits. After witnessing the film the audience should take away from it is the survival, acceptance and adaptation that Pi faces throughout the film. According to Roger Ebert, in his article “Life of Pi” he states, “I have decided it is one of the best films of the year”. I would have to agree with him due to how the film is portrayed in different ways. The way that the film is shot and who the characters are makes the film much more entraining and dramatic. My over all opinion about the film is that yes it is worth your time and money if you want to experience every emotion within two hours and six minutes.
