Sublime was formed in 1988 as a garage punk band. Sublime’s first album was released in 1992 the title was 40. oz. to freedom. Since then they have released 12 other albums, all in the reggae or garage punk band genre. They started making their music in California, most of their lyrics consisted of telling a story which most surfers and skaters thought they could relate to while living on the west coast. The feel and sound of the music is very relaxed or chill but the lyrics are very rebellious and definitely make a statement. Sublime’s sound is not like many other well-known artists that you hear on the radio. There are not loud electric guitars, or computerized sound effects, the instruments are all very natural sounding, and sometimes odd instruments are used to make a unique sound. The song April 25th 1992 has very memorable lyrics because it is a true story about riots in California. What is great about the lyrics is that they sound like they are actually there at the riots.
