One of my favorite artists is Lady Gaga, but her real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Born March 28, 1986 in Yonkers, New York, Lady Gaga started playing music when she was four. She sings music from the pop genre but also can play piano. Her record labels include Def Jam, Interscope, Kon Live, Streamline, and Cherrytree. Many of her songs reveal a sense of happiness or excitement. In her song, “Poker Face”, it has a fast beat, which creates energy and makes the audience feel excited. There’s a very large difference between Lady Gaga’s music and John Mayer’s music. John Mayer sings slow, mellow music in the acoustic genre, while Lady Gaga’s songs are very high tempo. If you’ve ever heard “Your Body is a Wonderland” by John Mayer, it’s complete opposite to something Lady Gaga would write. Lady Gaga sounds very similar to artists like Madonna and Britney Spears. They use strange lyrics in fast beat songs to get the audience’s attention. Both Madonna and Britney spears have performed at the VMA’s, and they make their performances memorable, as well as Lady Gaga. She made the stage a murder scene, which is something I have never seen. “Poker Face” is memorable to me because I love to play poker. So when I hear the song, I always think of the times that I’ve played poker. Critics from Rolling Stone say she is also changing what it means to be a 21st century pop star, and she’s doing it through 24 hours a day of fierce work. I agree with this because her music, attitude, and performance are much different than that of her competition. She’s not afraid to be different than everyone else. Lady Gaga is definitely worth your time and money because there’s much more to her than pop music. She adds charisma to her work and dedicates herself to change how we view pop music.
