Adele is a Grammy Award-Winning English singer and songwriter from London. Her debut album was released in the UK and has now been sold worldwide and she has become a huge hit here in the US. Adele’s music is considered many different types of music. Each song is different and has many feels, but she is mostly Pop/Rock/R&B/Soul. Adele has two albums. Her debut album 19, was released in January 2008 and her second album, 21, was released in January 2011. The feel you get when listening to Adele’s albums are very emotional. She made it clear that her second album was about her breakup with her boyfriend soon after she turned 21, and she was miserable. Her songs are very well relatable. A couple artists that would be similar to Adele would be Jessie J and Amy Winehouse. Both of these artists are from the UK originally and have become a phenomenon in the US. They all have the same emotional feel and unique style to their music. They are also singers and songwriters. Jessie J has become more of a rapper in the US and Amy Winehouse has done eclectic mixes from soul to rock ‘n’ roll. Adele’s lyrics are incredible. They are put in such a powerful manner and everyone knows just how to sing along. From the song, “Someone Like You” she says, “Never mind, I’ll find someone like you, I wish nothing but the best for you too.” These lyrics are sung out by anyone who has ever gone through a break up or even those who haven’t. It is all about learning to move on and deal with the past. Another lyric is from, “Set Fire to the Rain” she says, “There’s a side to you that I never knew, never knew/All the things you’d say, they were never true, never true.” This is talking about finding out about different and unknown sides to people and how a big web of lies can happen; again, very relatable. As said by BBC Music on January 27,2011, “21 is simply stunning. After only a handful of plays, it feels like you’ve always known it.” I completely agree with this review. Her albums are so loved by many listeners today. It seems as if her words are coming right from fan’s diaries. She sings about exactly what we want to hear and in such a powerful and beautiful voice. As said in NY Times article, “Songs About What Went Wrong, but Performed So Right,” Jon Pareles said, “Adele is a winning combination of awkwardness and aplomb.” I have to agree again. Off stage Adele is extremely quiet and shy and doesn’t really have a chatty outgoing personality, she is more reserved. But when she sings and performs, you would never know. Her voice is unbelievable and she sings with such soul and passion. My love for Adele has continued to grow hearing and listening to more of her songs over and over again. I promise you if you spend your time and money on this incredible, talented, soulful artist, you will not be disappointed. It will be an experience you will never forget.
