One music artist I really enjoy listening to is Lorin Ashton, also known as Bassnectar. He is an electronic freestyle, and dubstep producer. The music that Bassnectar produces is always something different and unique. The feel of the songs and albums are usually different depending on what song you are listening to. A lot of the emotions that are evoked are mostly excitement and relaxing. For example the song “Voodoo” gets you really pumped up, and makes you want to dance as opposed to the song “Dubasca” which relaxes you and makes you feel calm. Bassnectar is not the only dubstep producer. There are many others that produce other unique dubstep too like Rusko and Big Chocolate. The first time I heard Bassnectar, my sister showed me the song “Basshead”, and I was kind of iffy about the music at first because it is so different than most of the other music you hear on the radio. Another song that is very memorable is the song “The Matrix” which is my absolute favorite song because it is describing what Bassnectar is actually doing the lyrics “we drop bass in yah face” explains the purpose of dubstep, but those lyrics are just a metaphor. Many people think that dubstep is for people who are on drugs, well some people do like to do drugs while they listen to this music, and that it also invokes people to do drugs, well I have to disagree on that. Bassnectar and many other dubstep producers are drug free, and are very involved in the community. Bassnectar holds campaigns for charities, and in the year of 2011 he raised 50,000 dollars for three different charities. He is also very dedicated to his music, and he claims to be “obsessed” with creating such a unique type of music. Bassnectar is definitely one artist you would have to check out. His ability to transcend genres throughout his albums will get you off your feet and dancing in no time. It is definitely worth your time and money, and I also suggest checking out Rusko and Big Chocolate too!
