Carnifex is a San Diego based Heavy Metal band that has been together since 2005. Their most recent album, Until I Feel Nothing, which was released in 2011, is my all- time favorite. This album also got the best reviews from users and listeners from the metal community. Carnifex has a very gritty and metallic sound which enhances the feel of aliveness and evokes a sort of brutal attitude that people express when listening to this music. When Carnifex first started they had a huge influence from Whitechapel and As I lay Dying. Tim Lambesis from As I Lay Dying, produced the bands last album and the breakdowns are very similar to his. The bands toured together and got a huge makeover in the Instrument department. Some of the lyrics that really stand out to me is in their song Answers in Mourning singing, “Your arms were my open grave begging me back.” The lyrics really tell how he is feeling and his style of music. Also, it gives you a bit of background information on his relationship status, his attitude towards his peers, and most importantly, the way he feels inside. I agree with the critics somewhat. I feel like some of the critics gave them a very low rating on albums I thought were more progressed than others, which was odd. Although I disagree with them, I do agree on one album, The Diseased and Poisoned, was a very bad ear sore if you catch my drift. That album got a 2.4/5* rating which was BAD. The critics seemed to go easy on this band, as expected, because they are so new and progressing every album. Carnifex is a very gritty and brutal band, which I love, and that is why they are one of my top favorites. They are always worth the money depending on the album. If you stay away from the one that got the lowest, and the one I agreed on as well, they are a great band. Every band has its flaws, but I want you to check them out and help support their music!
