Ryan H’s second music blog was about the Beastie Boys, a punk/rap group. Ryan mainly wrote about their song “Sabotage,” and he also played this song in class for our multimedia power point assignment. When I first heard this song, I liked it because it was different and it sounded cool. I don’t usually like to listen to music, but I guess if I heard this on the radio I wouldn’t turn it off. In his blog post, Ryan stated that Rolling Stone named “Sabotage” as the 475th greatest song of all time. Who are they to say what the “greatest songs of all time” are? People can like different types of music, so obviously Rolling Stone can’t take into account everyone’s opinions about the song and therefore can’t decide what songs are the “greatest songs of all time.” In his blog post, Ryan also mentioned that the music video for “Sabotage” isn’t as intense as the song sounds, and that they’re making fun of old time cop shows in the video. This makes me like the group a bit more because any group that can be silly and have fun with something like a music video is alright with me. Although I kind of liked the song “Sabotage” when Ryan played it in class, I don’t think I’ll be listening to any other Beastie Boys songs any time soon. I don’t own an ipod so I don’t really have a means of listening to songs whenever I want to, and I’m too lazy to go look it up on youtube.
