In Lauren’s first blog post about Nicki Minaj I am definitely going to have to agree that rap influences both men and women. You don’t hear about or see many female rap or hip-hop artists, which is what makes Nicki Minaj different and stand out in the rap world. I also agree that some of her songs are fun and upbeat but Nicki Minaj also has a softer and mellower side. The song “Roman’s Revenge” portrays her upbeat and crazy side, while the song “Dear Old Nicki” is deeper in the lyrics and has a softer tone to it. I think that Trina is an artist that is most like Nicki Minaj because they both have the same writing styles and are on many tracks together. Trina is also another female hip-hop artist. But I think that Lauren was correct in saying she’s a lot like Rihanna because in her album Pink Friday she sings a lot more than raps and her and Rihanna have a similar style and sound. I agree with Lauren when she talks about the song “Moment for Life” being memorable. The line “I believe that life is a prize, but to live doesn't mean you're alive” sticks out to me because it’s saying live life to the fullest because you only get one chance. Also in the song “Moment for Life” the line, “Cause I’m still hood Hollywood couldn’t change me, shout out to my haters, sorry that you couldn’t phase me” shows that Nicki Minaj is a strong women and doesn’t let people influence her outtake on life . “Nicki Minaj has very quickly made a name for herself as a killer lyricist and a dynamic rhymer with as unique a style as we've seen in the rap world” Critic Kyle Anderson said this and I agree because her career has taken off quickly. I agree with Lauren when she says that she would suggest Nicki Minaj as an artist and I would definitely pay to see her live.
