Guest Blogger: Maggie Movie 1

The movie Titanic took place during April of 1912. One of the main characters, Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) won a ticket to board the voyage of the Titanic by winning a game of cards. He ends up meeting Rose DeWitt (played by Kate Winslet), who is on her way to Philadelphia where she is supposed to marry her rich, snobby fiancée. Rose is very unhappy with her life, and decides to jump off the back of the boat to commit suicide. Jack ends up saving her, and they become close. This greatly angers her fiancé, Cal, and causes troubles between the two of them. The plot twists when the Titanic hits an iceberg, and the ship begins to sink. The crazy struggles of Rose and Jack trying to make their love work while trying to stay alive keep viewers excited until the end of the movie. Will their love survive?
Leonardo DiCaprio captures the character of Jack very well, showing how a third class boy with nothing could find the love of his life, and convince her to stay with him. He shows the passionate love he has for her, and uses that love to try to help her survive when the ship starts to go down. Kate Winslet, who plays Rose, also does a spectacular job of portraying the correct feelings of her character. Rose is a character who is totally unhappy in her life, and scared to let anything new into it. She desperately wants to love Jack, but is afraid because of Cal. She sacrifices her life by jumping out of a life boat and back onto the sinking ship so she could be with Jack. The theme of love conquering all is evident throughout the film. Jack and Rose both sacrifice some of the most important things for each other, because of the love they share. They are both willing to sacrifice their lives for the other. Most critics of this movie say that Titanic is one of the best movies ever made, and is a classic that will be enjoyed for many years to come. I completely agree with all of them. Titanic sticks out in my mind as the best character driven movie ever made. Titanic is defiantly worth your time and money, it will entertain you as well as capture your heart, I guarantee it.
