Carlito’s Way Brian De Palma
Carlito’s Way is about a Puerto Rican ex-con who, in the beginning is released from prison, and tries to stay away from his old life and bad temptations. Carlito Brigante played by Al Pacino is the main character. He was just released from prison, and with the help from is old love Gail (Penelope Ann Miller), tries to stay away from the life of the streets. Al Pacinos’s performance in the movie is alright. I would have to say it is not as good as his performance in Scarface, but still it is a good performance and movie. Carlito’s motivation is to separate himself from the life of the streets in New York, but the pressures and his old life style prevents him from accomplishing this. He sees his old enemies and friends suck him back into the street life he wants to stay away from. Carlito’s traits are that he wants to change his life. He wants to become a better person, and live peacefully away from the drama of his old life. One thing the audience is supposed to take away from the movie is that the street life is hectic. People should stay away from this life style, because it will only bring drama into your life. Once you get into this life it is really hard to get out of it. You can see this in the movie when Carlito is released from prison, and trying to stay away from the pressures and temptations. Many critics believe that Carlito’s Way is a better movie than Scarface, because of the fact that Carlito is a better person that has learned his lesson compared to Tony Montana in Scarface. I disagree, because the acting in Scarface is better and more entertaining. I do agree with the critics that Carlito’s Way is a good movie. It has life lessons, and you get to see how a former gangster tries to get his life straight. This movie is worth the money to rent, and if you really like it then it’s definitely worth the money to buy. And if it is worth the money to buy then it’s worth your time to watch it.
