Pronounced as B.E.T’s best hip hop female artist of 2010, best new artist in 2010, and the world’s best new Barbie. Onika Tanya Maraj (Nicki Minaj) took those awards with grace and honor. She has fire, stigma, and confidence that spark her audience as she speaks through her music. Nicki has what we call female talent in today’s society. In her early life, Minaj originated in Trinidad on December 8 1984. She was born of an Indian and Afro-Trinidadian descent. After the age of five, Nicki moved to the Bronx part of New York where she was raised and eventually discovered her true inner talent “rapping”. Discovered and signed under “Young Money” she then took off as an artist that no other female hip hop artist can handle. She hasn’t yet dropped an album but it’s soon to come out late November 2010. Her 2009 mix tape plus featured songs with numerous artists these past years is what brought her to our attention. The feel of her recent mix tape brought the since of a bad harijuku Barbie with attitude. The emotions put in her songs were sometimes mad but her boost of confidence never shadowed down. Nicki’s songs describe how she feels about a situation and how it’s being solved. Like her song “Still I Rise”, she describes how fake rappers or haters may put her down but in the end she knows she will rise above all her haters and make it to the top. Nicki Minaj’s sound is well known compared to an inspired rapper “Lil Kim”, who thinks Nicki took her rapper image which Kim doesn’t approve. Lil Kim displayed a bad girl type image that was sexy with a broad, sexual, and confident sound base like Nicki. The two artists have bumped heads over that dispute but Nicki never shadows Kim, she looks at her as a big inspirational sister. Other people “critics” define Nicki the same way I see her. She’s young, talented; with attitude that will keep her fame always at top chart. Nicki Minaj is worth all our time and money. She put forth effort, love, and skill towards each project she displays for her fans. Speaking image, it’s not only for men to enjoy. Ladies look up to her as a strong and independent lady. This is why we listen and strive so hard to be perfect like Barbie.
