A guy named Tom Hanson is in love with a girl but she is in love with someone else. Eventually, Tom finds out about this romance. The girl, Summer Finn has been leading him on for 500 days. Hence the name, 500 Days of Summer. The movie shows the relationship between these two characters. It is shown from the character Tom Hanson’s perspective.
Actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt was perfection. As an actor, he can make the audience feel any emotion he wants to portray. You feel sorry for him when he doesn’t get his soul mate, Summer. His co-star, Zooey Deschanel was equally as fantastic. Her performance as Summer Finn really made you hate her as a person. You are angered with her when she starts a new relationship out of the blue.
The biggest motivation that Tom Hanson seems to have is love. He is so caught up on winning his “soul mate”. He forgets what went wrong in the relationship. Summer Finn doesn’t really have a motivation. She is trying to figure out her life. In that process she seems to forget about Tom Hanson.
The main theme of the movie is that relationships don’t always work out. No matter how much Tom tries to think about what went wrong-nothing is going to change.
I agree with the critic. He refers to Summer Finn as “capricious, alluring, and not entirely knowable.”(Gleiberman) Not only that, but he agrees with most of my opinions about the movie.
I love this movie. Not only does it have the best actors (Joesph Gordon-Levitt), but it has an amazing soundtrack. The film has such a different style than most movies. I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to see something unexpected.
