Aaron Dontez Yates aka Tech n9ne is a rapper born in Kansas City, Missouri. He started rapping in 1990 and is still going strong today. His rap name had originated from the TEC-9 semi-automatic handgun, given to him by rapper Black Walt due to his fast rhyming Chopper style. Yates later applied a deeper meaning to the name, claiming that it stands for the complete technique of rhyme, with tech meaning technique and nine representing the number of completion. In 1999 tech n9ne and Travis O’Guin started a new label named Strange music productions. Throughout his career Tech n9ne has sold over two million albums and has had his music featured in film, television, and video games. In 2009, he won the Left Field Woodie award at the mtvU Woodie Awards. Most of his early albums had more of a dark and depressing mood while his later albums had more of a rock and upbeat feel to them. Tech n9ne has produced songs with many other well-known rappers; like B.o.B, E-40, Snoop Dogg, Hopsin, T-Pain, Jay Rock, Mint Condition, Busta Rhymes, Twista, Lil Wayne, machine gun Kelly, Wiz Khalifa, and Yelawolf. Nathan S. of DJBooth stated about his newest album “Something else”: Who knows, maybe in a year all hip-hop will sound more like Something Else. Certain rappers, the true outsiders, are just so undeniably dope they shift hip-hop culture towards them. Tech N9ne is one of those rappers. I completely agree with his statement about Tech N9ne I believe his music will cause some changes in the rap game. Earlier he also says this; While Tech N9ne’s not in that elite company, at least not yet, he’s closer than many give him credit for, and just got even closer to maybe, just maybe, shifting hip-hop’s balance with the release of his new album, Something Else. I also agree with what he says Tech N9ne is very close to joining the ranks of the rap greats. With his latest success on his albums he is very close to that goal. I think Tech n9ne is worth the time and money to get his albums, if you like listening to his fast pace beats and even faster lyrics, he is a very talented rapper and you will be hooked on his music quickly.
